雪に覆われて静かに眠っていた園舎もキッズワールドに参加していたお子さま達、そして始業日の元気なお子さま達の歓声でいっぺんに目を覚ましました。いよいよ始まった３学期。長い冬休みの間にご家族との触れ合いを満喫した数々の思い出を、目を輝かせて報告し合う姿があちこちに見受けられました。嬉しかったクリスマスプレゼントのこと、お正月の旅行やおじいさま、おばあさまの家に泊まったこと、楽しかった全部の経験が、お子さま達の心と身体をひとまわりもふたまわりも大きく成長させてくれました。

　さて、平成30年度から改訂される「幼稚園教育要領」。ここには幼稚園教育の基本、ねらい、内容などが記載されているのですが、改訂するにあたって出された将来の社会予測で「今の子ども達の65％は、大学卒業後、今は存在していない職業に就く」、「社会の変化は加速度を増し複雑で予測困難になってきており、社会の変化にいかに対処していくか、という受け身ではなく、主体的に向き合ってかかわりあうことが重要」ということが言われています。あくまでも予測ですが、ここ10年で車の自動運転が実現されたり、音声だけで機械を動かせるようになったりと、時代が大きく変化したことを考えれば、お子さま達が社会にでる10年後は、今よりもさらに進化した技術、そしてそれに伴う変化は必ず起こることでしょう。

　そして、この加速度の激しい変化に主体的に対応するために、お子さまが今何を経験すべきか。それは、お子さまにとって生活の大半を占める、より豊かな「遊び」を経験することです。「遊び」と表現してしまうと、大人の頭の中ではともすると価値の低いもの、とイメージされがちですが、幼児にとっては「社会で生活する」ための「生き方」の習得練習で、「摸倣」し、「模索」し、「創造」し、「試行錯誤」を繰り返して、「将来へ続く生き方」を学ぶ行為が幼児期の「遊び」になります。幼児は生まれながらにして、この「遊び」を探り出す天才です。生活の全てを遊びで完全に包んでしまいます。幼児期の生活に最も大切なことは、幼児が「遊びの意識」で興味や関心を旺盛に示す時期に、精選されたより質の高い生活経験の環境を与えてあげることです。遊びの意識で身に付いた行動は、どんな時にでも意欲的に取り組み、達成させる知恵を働かせます。逆に「勉強」と意識したとたん、それは「上達・達成」の意欲と「逃避・負担」で意欲が二分してしまいます。

　小学校以降に繋がる「勉強以前の学習」を遊びの中で習得できるよう、次の学年に繋がる大事な３学期、より充実した遊び＝活動を教職員一同で組み立て、行って参りたいと思います。

The kindergarten came alive after winter vacation with the return of Kids World and Opening Ceremony. The third term is here. Many kids shared the wonderful experiences they had with their families over the break. They came back more well-rounded after happy Christmases, New Year trips, and visits to far-away family members.

From this year, the kindergarten educational guidelines will be revised. These revisions are being put in place due to various factors. Sources say 65 percent of children will wind up working in job fields that don’t currently exist. These sources also say that the speed that society is developing is overwhelming young people going out into the workforce. The revisions are meant to provide them with the skills to meet challenges head-on. For example, in the last ten years, cars have learned to drive themselves. What changes await in the future?

So, it becomes a question of what experiences children need to get ready for the future. As a matter of fact, the key lies in “play”. What an adult may consider simple playtime is actually a vital life skill for children. At play, they are imagining, deducing, creating, and reenacting. Children are little geniuses at finding ways to turn something into play. Play can come to encompass all aspects of their lifestyle. Vital to this development is giving them an enriching home environment. More chances to “play” will enable them to turn most anything into a learning experience. When things become “study”, they cause a division between “improvement” and “success”.

In preparation for moving up to elementary school, or just simply the next year here at IYK, we the teachers will be doing all we can to provide the children with a refreshing, enriching environment.
